The first walk is around the bottom half of the lower reservoir crossing over at the bridge that is part of the R764. The walk is extremely level, on a good surface and approx. 6km long with interesting scenery.

The first walk starts from the embankment that creates the lower reservoir and carries the R764. Walking in the direction of Roundwood you will have the waterworks to your left and the reservoir to your right. Parking is a problem as there is no official car park. Some people park on the embankment.

The causeway and bridge that allows the R765 to cross the reservoir, forms the return route of the walk and each side of the reservoir forms part of the  walk.

To enter the reservoir grounds you have to use the stile next to the gate

The sign testifies that we are a multi cultural nation and the love of fishing of our Eastern Europe residents.

The Walk is a feast to the eyes as the photographs show

Along this path I encountered a duck with a damaged wing. The wing was almost trailing the ground as the duck made feeble attempts to fly. Not being easily deceived on this occasion I looked and there in the corner of my eye I spotted her brood of ducklings. Needless to say the wing took a remarkable recovery once I was away from her chicks and she shot into the air as she gave one of her duck laughs.

Each season of the year brings it's own beauty as Autumn to this scene.

On exiting the reservoir grounds follow the road and turn right at the next junction to take you back to the embankment.

What is worse then no road signs?

A road sign that is pointing in the wrong direction (as the one in the photo). Visitors to Ireland be warned - we have round poles for our road sighs and people who seem to get no greater delight then turning some of them around.

In the sphere of religion there are signs pointing in the wrong direction. Jesus speaking to the Religious Leaders of his day says
"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to.
"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are."
Matthew chapter 23 verses 13 and 15.

He also warned his disciples.
"Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. And many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.
For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible."
Matthew chapter 7 verse 15, chapter 24 verses 11 and 24

Psalmist says to God “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path”. Psalm 119 verse 105
